Dining Halls

Meals in the dining hall are among the highlights of every student’s daily life at Yale-NUS College. These are moments for the entire community, including the Rector, Assistant Deans, Residential Life Officers, Residential College Advisors, faculty members, and the administration, to come together in an informal setting. Each Residential College has its own dining hall where any student, no matter the college, can eat.

Stephen Riady Centre

The Stephen Riady Centre features a recreational pool, rock-climbing wall, comprehensive gymnasium, dance studios, lecture theatres, and other sporting, cultural, and educational facilities.

Prayer Room

The prayer room is a space built on mutual respect and understanding where all are welcome to unwind, meditate, and also observe their religious practices.

Skygardens

The residential towers at Yale-NUS feature sky gardens — open spaces every two or three floors designed to encourage more social activity. Each sky garden is equipped with picnic tables, plants, benches, and outdoor common spaces, creating a sense of a close-knit neighborhood within a nested community.

Butteries

Each Yale-NUS Residential College has a late-night snack cafe known as a “buttery”:  Shiner’s Diner (Elm), and The Nest (Cendana). These butteries bring students together for noodles, omelettes, burgers, and special food items to fuel you through the late night.

Courtyards

Each residential college has its own courtyard that can hold events such as barbecues and wellness classes, or can even simply be a space to unwind on a hammock!

Counselling Centre

The Counselling Centre is committed to the highest quality of clinical services to promote the emotional, relational, and academic potential of all students. Understanding the struggles University students face, their goal is to provide a confidential, non-judgmental atmosphere using a holistic and collaborative model of care.

Create / Town Plaza

CREATE is an international research campus and innovation hub, home to the National Research Foundation, as well as interdisciplinary research centers from top universities and corporate laboratories. Town Plaza, located within the first two levels of CREATE Tower has an auditorium, seminar rooms, retail and F&B outlets. The informal study areas at level 2 are also open to students.

Education Resource Centre (ERC)

The ERC provides four levels of seminar rooms, discussion spaces, and cubicles for private study. It is also home to a massive indoor and outdoor learning café, one of the most popular hubs within UTown. Most facilities are open 24/7 and wireless-enabled.

Multi Purpose Hall

Students can gather here for athletic and recreation activities including basketball, badminton, volleyball, table tennis, floorball, yoga, and tchoukball. The MPH is also used for large social gatherings and events.

Fitness Centre

Managed by the Athletics & Recreation department, the Fitness Centre contains a variety of cardio and strength equipment. The space is accessible by students, staff, faculty members and residents of Yale-NUS College.

Opening Hours:
6 am – 11.59 pm, during the semester
7 am – 10 pm, during vacations

Classrooms

The College has 23 classrooms, 2 Programme Rooms, and 2 Global Learning Rooms. Media & Classroom Technology offers support for activities held in these College spaces as well. Users can call or email the classroom support hotline for inquiries. A duty technician will be available upon request.

Saga Lecture Theatre 1

Our Saga Lecture Theatre 1 seats 60pax. Users can use a single (center) projection screen or dual or all three projection screens. Its circular layout allows for more interactivity between presenters and participants.

Science at Yale-NUS College is supported by a wide range of specialised laboratories, scientific equipment, field resources and computing infrastructure. These facilities are central to our mission of promoting active experiential learning in science and supporting faculty in achieving their research goals.

Recording Studio

The Recording Studio is a specialized facility for sound recording, mixing, and audio production of instrumental or vocal musical performances, spoken words, and other sounds. The studio is equipped with microphones and mic stands, where instrumentalists and vocalists can perform; and the control room, where audio engineers can operate audio mixing consoles, or with specialized software suites to mix the sound for digital recording.

Tan Chin Tuan Lecture Theatre

Tan Chin Tuan Lecture Theatre is a 75pax auditorium. It has a pitched floor, so that the rear seats are higher than those at the front (i.e. tiered seating), allowing them to see the presenter. Users can either present using a single (center) projection screen or dual projection screen.

Nestled along with the other practice rooms, the band room is a fully-equipped space for those who would like to have a full band practice or even, acoustic jamming sessions.

 

Practice Rooms

The College has 6 practice rooms of various sizes, that the students can book and get access to 24/7. The practice rooms are used for many activities ranging from piano, theatre, singing and dance rehearsals, to study group and student club meetings.

Writers' Centre

The Writers’ Centre is a space for all kinds of disciplinary academic writing – be it in humanities, social sciences or sciences – as well as co-curricular and extra-curricular writing endeavours.. The centre supports writers in the Yale-NUS community with any writing at any stage of their process.​

Fabrication Studio 5 (Carpentry)

This Fabrication Studio is equipped with machinery dedicated to heavy construction activities. Cutting, drilling, welding and filing equipment are some of the facilities that are available for use. The space could also be used for sets and props making.

Fabrication Studio 4 (Technology)

The Fabrication Studio here is equipped with a Laser-cutter, 4 3-D Printers and 2 Sewing Machines. It also has soldering and electronics stations, and a ‘Thinking Space’ for students to hang-out and discuss as they work on their projects.

This studio can be shared amongst various arts groups. Different types of activities can be held here, such as classes, screenings, dance practices, theatre rehearsals, art gallery, and event exhibitions.

Dance Studio

A very popular space for all dancers around the College, this Dance Studio has full-length mirrors and harlequin cascade flooring, designed for dance usage. However, the space is not limited to only dance activities and can be used for theatre rehearsals as well.

 

Yale-NUS College Hall Foyer

The foyer is a multi-purpose space, commonly used for after-event receptions, networking and installation space, and even for arts events seeking to have an intimate audience. The space could fill about 100 people at any one time.

The Yale-NUS College Hall is where most official events, such as conferences and symposiums take place. Some events held in the past include NUS Open Day, Experience Yale-NUS Weekend, common curriculum lectures, and the Presidents Speaker Series.

Within the library learning commons, there are two floors of study spaces, group study rooms, exhibition spaces, along with printers and computers available to use.

Study Space

  • Open to all NUS community and members of the public during the library opening hours.
  • The library entrance doors will be unlocked and open to the public during opening hours:
    Mondays-Fridays: 8:30am to 10:00pm; Saturday & Sunday 10:00am to 6:00pm.

24-hour Study Area

  • Reserved for the exclusive use of Yale-NUS College students at all times.

Group Study Rooms (7 rooms)

  • Reserved for use by student residents of Yale-NUS College.
  • Student residents are required to book the rooms via the Facility Booking System (FBS) before using.
  • Group study rooms 1, 2, 3:  For groups of 2 to 4
  • Group study rooms 4, 5, 6, 7: For groups of 5 to 7

Georgette Chen Art Studio

The Georgette Chen Arts Studio is dedicated to visual arts classes and events. It could also convert to a gallery space.

Town Green

The perfect place to host a picnic, organise a Frisbee game, join in a guitar sing-along, relax under the Angsana trees or initiate a star-gazing session at night. The Town Green is also perfect for larger outdoor events, such as open-air concerts, film screenings, and team-building events.

Common Lounges

Each Residential College has a common lounge, and these are central locations within in the residential college where Rector’s Teas, speakers, small celebrations and gatherings are held.

Cendana Field

The Cendana field is an open grass pitch that is used by athletics teams as an additional training space and is open to all on a first-come-first-served basis.

Black Box Theatre

The Black Box Theatre can hold up to 185 pax (including technical crew and performers) and is suitable for intimate and engaging events and performances.

Amphitheatre

Amphitheatre, Campus Greens Wooden Stage and the Agora Stage

The Amphitheatre, Campus Greens Wooden Stage and the Agora Stage is an outdoor area that could hold a variety of events – from event installations, band performances, and theatrical pieces, to outdoor networking activities.
